Sports247 reports that Samuel further reasoned that the country’s successful bid for the championship, ahead of a rival move by Australia, also attests to the progress that has been achieved by the federation in propagating Nigeria to the world.

Samuel stated this in the wake of a well-attended ceremony to unveil the upcoming competition’s official logo and mascot at Rugby School, Eko Atlantic City, which she said further laid credence to the growth of fencing in Nigeria.

She also spoke about the immense values that Nigeria will gain from hosting the quadrennial championship, which was last staged at University of East London in England and will next come up in Lagos from August 9th to 14th.

The fencing vice-president then urged sports lovers and the general public to rally round the federation, as Lagos gets set to host the iconic competition, which is officially tagged 2026 Senior Commonwealth Fencing Championships.

Samuel, who often steps out in the sport’s full attire, declared: “The awarding of the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships to Nigeria is a recognition of the progress we have made as a federation and as a nation.

“It reflects the confidence that the international fencing community has in our ability to host a world-class event and deliver an unforgettable experience for athletes and visitors from across the Commonwealth.”
