Nigeria’s female volleyball team has received a huge boost in motivational words and promises from the country’s High Commissioner-Designate to Kenya, Ambassador Danlami Ibrahim ahead of their next game at the ongoing continental champioinship in Nairobi.
Sports247 reports that the team has been spurred by commendations from Ambassador Ibrahim, following their stunning victory over DR Congo during a classification game at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Nations Volleyball Championship.
Ibrahim said he was excited seeing the team storm back from two sets down to beat the Congolese 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-13) in a pulsating 9th-12th classification match at Ulinzi Complex on Tuesday, following which he praised the players for their fighting spirit.
While noting that the team’s progress has been encouraging, after suffering a 3-0 loss to Kenya in their last group match, Ibrahim urged Nigerians in the country to troop out and support the players in their next game, while also promising to celebrate the squad after the last fixture.
“I’m highly elated. To come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2, that is the stuff Nigeria is made of. You underrate Nigeria at your own peril. These girls have shown tremendous determination.
“From the game, which they lost 3-0 to Kenya, they bounced back to win two consecutive matches. It’s a young and promising team, so I believe they have a bright future ahead.
“Nigerians here in Kenya should come out in numbers. The turnout so far has not been very impressive, perhaps because of work commitments, but I want to appeal to them to make the effort to come out for the final game.
“They should please come out and cheer on the team. They should come and cheer the team to victory. Afterwards, we will have a Nigerian party for the team and Nigerians here in Kenya,” the High Commissioner-Designate projected.
