Nigerian sprint sensation Favour Ofili has etched her name into the annals of athletics history by setting a new African record in the women’s 150m straight race at the Adidas Atlanta City Games.
Clocking an impressive 16.30 seconds, Ofili’s performance surpassed the previous African record of 16.60 seconds held by Marie-Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast.

The race was a thrilling contest, with Ofili finishing in a photo finish alongside her training partner, American sprinter Candace Hill.
Both athletes recorded identical times of 16.30 seconds, but Hill was awarded the victory by a mere 0.006 seconds, with official times of 16.293s for Hill and 16.299s for Ofili .
This remarkable achievement adds to Ofili’s growing list of accolades. At just 21 years old, she holds multiple African records, including the 200m indoor (22.11s) and 300m indoor (35.99s) events. Her recent performance in Atlanta underscores her status as one of Africa’s premier sprint talents.
The Adidas Atlanta City Games, held at Piedmont Park, is renowned for its unique “street meet” format, bringing track and field events to urban settings.
