Fatai Osho Takes the Helm at Akwa United in Quest for Nigerian Football Supremacy

Fatai Osho, the former manager of Enyimba, has been appointed as the new manager of Akwa United, the reigning champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) for the 2021 season.
Osho has inked a one-year deal with the Promise Keepers, with the potential for a contract extension at the end of his initial tenure.
Osho replaces Deji Ayeni, whose contract was not renewed after Akwa United failed to defend their league title in 2022 and missed out on qualifying for the Super Six tournament in the previous season.
The club’s management is optimistic that Osho’s expertise and the talented squad at his disposal will help restore Akwa United to their former glory.
The experienced coach most recently served as an assistant manager to Stanley Eguma at Rivers United, a position he held for two seasons. However, Osho resigned from his post following the conclusion of the NPFL23 Super Six. With his wealth of knowledge and tactical acumen, Osho is poised to make a significant impact at Akwa United.
Under Ayeni’s leadership, Akwa United clinched the NPFL title in 2021, marking a remarkable achievement for the club.
However, they were unable to maintain their dominance in the following year, prompting the need for a managerial change. With Osho’s appointment, the team is hopeful that they can reclaim their position at the pinnacle of Nigerian football.
Financial details surrounding Osho’s contract have also emerged, indicating that he will earn an estimated ₦2 million monthly. This substantial figure reflects the club’s recognition of Osho’s capabilities and the importance of securing a top-tier manager to guide the team forward.
As Akwa United prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Fatai Osho and his ability to mold the talented roster into a cohesive and successful unit.
With the club’s ambitions set on regaining their status as NPFL champions, Osho’s experience and leadership will be vital in their pursuit of glory.
