Nigeria’s female youth national team, Falconets have been charged to go all out for victory during Tuesday’s international friendly against Korea in order to boost their morale ahead of the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, Sports247 reports.
This charge was given by the acting general secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, who reminded the players that they need to enter the group stage at Poland 2026 with a winning mentality, backed by good results in all of their build-up games.
Ikpeme noted that the Falcons’ second group match will be against China, which is an Asian side like Korea, hence the relevance of Tuesday’s encounter, which he advised them to face with vibrant confidence.
The NFF’s interim scribe also urged the Falconets to put in their very best against the Koreans, in order to continue the winning form they started with last Friday’s 1-0 victory over the hosts, Poland, as they continue their build-up to this month’s Female Youth Mundial.
He further pointed out that all football loving Nigerians will be eager to hear good news later in the day; as the Falconets go up against the Asians in their final warm-up game at Remes Sports Leisure & Spa Stadium.
Ikpeme eulogised, “You did very well in your friendly match against the host nation, by holding your own and eventually emerging victorious. The NFF and the entire Nigeria nation are proud of you.
“The victory over Poland has instilled a win-mentality in you. Another victory over Korea Republic on Tuesday will sustain that mindset, enabling you to confront the challenges of the group phase at the World Cup with the needed confidence and vibrancy. I urge you to go for outright victory against the Koreans.”
Sports247 reports further that the Falcons will compete in Group F at Poland 2026, where they will first face Spain on 7th September, then tango China on the 10th and end their first round fixtures versus New Caledonia on 13th of same month.
Coach of the side, Moses Aduku has an onerous task of marshalling the current squad to match or better Nigeria’s historic silver-winning feats of 2014 and 2018 in the global female youth championship.
