Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, have intensified preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after settling into their training camp in Trzebnica, Poland.
Sports247 reports that the two-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup silver medalists arrived in Poland on Tuesday and commenced training the following day at the Stadion Miejski, Fair Play Arena, as Head Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew began fine-tuning the team ahead of the global tournament.
The training sessions have focused on tactical organization, technical execution, physical conditioning and team cohesion, with the players showing determination and intensity as they adapt to their new environment.
As part of their final preparations, the Falconets will play two international friendly matches against Poland and South Korea before the commencement of the World Cup.
Nigeria will face hosts Poland on Friday, August 28, at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, with the encounter scheduled for 12 noon local time. Their second friendly against South Korea will take place on September 1 at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium, kicking off at 4pm local time.
The two matches are expected to provide the Falconets with valuable opportunities to acclimatize to the conditions in Poland, test their tactical approach and gain experience against quality opposition ahead of the tournament.
The fixtures will also allow Aduku and his technical team to assess the players’ progress and make final adjustments to the squad before the competitive action begins.
Meanwhile, captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab, who were not granted visas, have been replaced in the squad by Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi.
The Falconets are drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia. Nigeria will begin their campaign against Spain on September 7, before taking on China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
Having finished runners-up at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on two previous occasions, Nigeria will be aiming to go one step further in Poland and secure the country’s first-ever title in the competition.
With preparations now gathering momentum, the Falconets will hope the upcoming friendlies provide the perfect platform to build confidence, cohesion and match sharpness before their World Cup opener.
