Esther Okoronkwo has returned to training with AFC Toronto just over a week after helping Nigeria’s Super Falcons secure their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
The 28-year-old forward played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final, scoring a crucial penalty and providing two assists to earn the Player of the Final award. Following a brief return home to celebrate the historic triumph, Okoronkwo is now back with AFC Toronto as the team resumes its Northern Super League (NSL) campaign.

Since joining AFC Toronto in February 2025, Okoronkwo has scored four goals in 10 league appearances and was named both Player of the Month and Goal of the Month in May. Her return adds a major boost to the club’s attacking strength as they push forward in Canada’s inaugural professional women’s league.
AFC Toronto officials, including CEO Helena Ruken and NSL President Christina Litz, have praised Okoronkwo’s swift return and her impact both on and off the pitch. The club described her WAFCON heroics as a proud moment for AFC Toronto and a significant milestone for the league.
Okoronkwo’s consistent performance at international and club levels continues to inspire young athletes across continents, and her presence in the NSL highlights the growing connection between African talent and North American women’s football.
