Ezenwa: Libya Matches Will Decide Eagles’ AFCON Fate

Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has shot his mind ahead of his expectations from joining the national camp on Monday, and says he and other players in the Super Eagles know that their impending double-fixtures against Libya are very decisive.

Ahead of next Saturday’s first leg at home in Uyo and the reverse fixture in Sfax, Tunisia on October 16, Ezenwa admitted in a chat with sports247.ng that both matches will determine Nigeria’s fate in qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, while admitting that both matches are very crucial for Nigeria’s hopes of reaching Cameroon 2019, and end a run of failing to reach AFCON in the past two editions, Ezenwa said all the Eagles players will be on their toes during training.

He parried suggestions that he will again play second fiddle behind new first choice keeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho, as Ezenwa insists anyone the coaches pick to don the nation’s jerseys would live up to expectations.

Ezenwa said: “The double header against Libya in the race for the 2019 AFCON will to a large extent decide Nigeria’s qualification hopes.

“These are two matches we in the Super Eagles cannot afford to toy with, especially the first leg in Uyo. But I can assure you that all of us in the national team are fully focused on making things good for Nigeria and return to the Cup of Nations next year.”
