The championship, which had gained prominence as one of Nigeria’s premier badminton events, last took place in 2019.

The revival of the tournament is a welcome development for badminton enthusiasts and players who have eagerly awaited the resumption of competitive play on the national stage.

With total prize money of N5,340,000 up for grabs, players are not only competing for financial rewards but also for crucial ranking points to enhance their national standings.

The finals and closing ceremony are scheduled for Saturday, December 2, 2023, promising an exciting culmination of the tournament.

National ranking points earned in this championship will play a pivotal role in determining player invitations to the national camp in early January.

The national team selected from this camp will represent Nigeria in two significant continental events in the first quarter of the following year – the All Africa Senior Badminton Championship in Egypt in February and the All Africa Games scheduled for Ghana in March.

The return of the Mutual Benefits National Badminton Championship has generated considerable enthusiasm among players, administrators, and technical officials.

The prospect of resuming such high-profile competitions is particularly significant after an extended period without such outings.

Expressing his excitement, the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, pledged to explore additional opportunities to “keep the players’ calendar crowded.”

This commitment aligns with his earlier promise made before being elected to his first term as President, emphasizing the federation’s dedication to providing ample platforms for players to showcase their talents and compete at the highest level.
