Barau Football Club head coach Eugene Agagbe praised his players for maintaining their concentration and discipline after securing a valuable 0-0 draw away to Ikorodu City in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Barau FC travelled to Lagos with a clear tactical plan and executed it effectively, frustrating the home side throughout the encounter to return to Kano with a point.
Sports247 reports that speaking after the match, Agagbe expressed his satisfaction with the mentality displayed by his players, insisting that avoiding defeat was a key part of their game plan.
“We came here with a strategy and losing was not in our agenda.”
The Barau FC coach said his players remained focused throughout the contest, acknowledging the quality of an Ikorodu City side that was unable to break down their organised defence.
“I am happy for them. They are focused; the concentration was there. The focus was just too great,” Agagbe said.
He admitted that Ikorodu City have a good team, but maintained that Barau FC were determined to stick to their approach and ensure they left with something from the encounter.
“As I earlier said, we came here with a strategy. Losing wasn’t in our agenda. If we can’t get the three points, we go home with a point,” he added.
The result represents another step forward for Barau FC as they continue to build momentum in the NPFL. Rather than taking unnecessary risks in pursuit of victory, Agagbe’s side showed patience and defensive discipline to secure a point on the road.
For a team still establishing itself in the campaign, the coach believes the progress will come gradually.
“Gradually, we are picking up, and gradually we will get there,” Agagbe concluded.
The draw leaves Barau FC with another valuable away point, while Ikorodu City will have to settle for a share of the spoils despite enjoying home advantage.
For Agagbe and his players, however, the performance offered another indication of a team willing to follow its tactical instructions and fight for results away from home.
