Speaking candidly, Esin revealed that Keshi had warned him early in his career to adopt a more disciplined and stable lifestyle while playing abroad.
According to him, the former national team captain encouraged him to settle down and avoid distractions that could jeopardize his future.
Esin admitted that ignoring that guidance proved costly. He described a period marked by excessive partying and multiple relationships, noting that he underestimated the cultural and legal differences between Nigeria and Europe.
“I was living like I was still in Nigeria,” he said, reflecting on the mindset that contributed to his troubles. “I didn’t understand how strict things were over there.”
The former midfielder linked his lifestyle at the time to the legal issues he encountered in Belgium, explaining that his actions were influenced by a lack of awareness and poor decision-making.
He stated that the situation involved someone he believed to be his girlfriend, adding that he was unaware she was underage.
Esin also acknowledged that his handling of the case further complicated matters. He disclosed that going against legal advice during proceedings worsened his position, ultimately contributing to the outcome that affected his career trajectory.
Looking back, the ex-international expressed regret and emphasized that he has learned from the experience.
He admitted that better choices—both personally and professionally—might have changed the course of his career.
His reflections serve as a cautionary account for young athletes navigating life abroad, highlighting the importance of discipline, awareness of local laws, and the value of mentorship from experienced figures in the game.
