He noted further that the move by Esports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) to host one of the most prestigious international virtual competitions in the world is to meet up with the globally acclaimed benefits of competitive gaming.

Okoye added that esports has evolved into a powerful cultural, technological and economic force, hence the move by EFN president Yahaya Maikori, with national communications leadership from the director of media, Ifeanyi Elumeziem, to host the 2028 ENC.

“Nigeria is not just participating in the global esports ecosystem, we are ready to host it. This bid reflects our confidence in our people, our infrastructure potential, and the immense talent of our youth.

“We intend to deliver a world-class experience that sets a new standard for Africa,” said Okoye, who also disclosed that the competition organised by Esports World Cup Foundation is a nation-versus-nation global event.

He added that the competition, which will debut this year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is designed to ignite national pride through competitive gaming, while bringing together more than 2,000 players from over 100 countries across 16 major game titles.

Sports247 gathered further that EFN’s officials believe that hosting the four-week global tournament will unlock significant economic value for Nigeria, as it is expected to attract thousands of international visitors, with a big tourism impact.
