Eseimokumo Gives Bayelsa State Last Gold, As Hosts Top Douye Diri Wrestling Classics

Bayelsa State’s Godday Eseimokumo won the last set of gold medals and helped the hosts emerge tops of the 4th Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, as he dethroned Femi Jackson of Rivers State in the 86kg category.

Sports247 reports that Dynamite Club emerged second on the overall medals table, while the Nigerian Army placed third, a day after Eseimokumo joined the hosts’ gold medalists, as he joined the horde atop the final medals table.

On the same day, Mathias Okuma of Edo State and Andy Alagba of Nigeria Customs Service settled for bronze medals in the 86kg cadre, while Welson Ebikewenimo of Bayelsa State beat Simone Enosunimi of Edo in the men’s 57kg.

Enosunimi had taken the lead in the first round, but Ebikewenimo, who happens to be a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, bounced back to snatch gold, while Joseph Joshua of Lagos State and Samuel Chaima of Plateau State got bronze.

In the women’s 53kg final, Mausi Zannli of Lagos State laboured to beat Ayo Esewi of Edo State, while Andrew Woyinkobikiye of Bayelsa State and Bidemi Enukezie of Delta State settled for bronze.

In the 57kg class, Jumoke Adekoya of Ondo State defeated Faith Esouakpo of Edo, as Tanlayefa Bekefale of Bayelsa State and Brenda Godfrey of Delta State earned bronze, same as Tokere Appah of Defence and Jennifer Okhilie of Edo in 65kg.

The women’s 65kg gold went to African champion, Mercy Adekuoroye of Rivers State, who retained her title with victory over Mughentola Ebipatai of Bayelsa by technical superiority in the multipurpose sports hall of Samson Siasia Complex.
