This is a development that has continued to generate debate around the club’s ongoing restructuring.
The ceremony followed decisive moves by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who approved the appointments between late January and early February 2026 as part of a broader effort to reposition the two-time African champions for renewed domestic and continental success.
For Enyimba, a club long associated with dominance and pedigree, the appointments represent an attempt to restore stability after a turbulent period marked by technical uncertainty.
Deutsch arrives in Aba with strong credentials, holding CAF A, coaching licence and He is expected to inject tactical clarity, organisation and discipline into the team as the People’s Elephant seek to regain their competitive edge.
Eke is tasked with overseeing recruitment policy and rebuilding the club’s youth development framework, his return is viewed as a nod to continuity and institutional knowledge at a time of significant change.
However, the transition has not been without controversy.
Reports of tension between the Abia State Government and the club’s existing management persist, with sources pointing to delays in the formal unveiling of Deutsch despite earlier approval, as well as uncertainty over day-to-day technical control during the handover period.
Despite the surrounding noise, the state government maintains that the appointments are firmly in the best interest of the club.
With Deutsch charged with reviving Enyimba’s on-pitch fortunes and Eke responsible for shaping long-term sporting strategy, expectations remain high that the Aba giants can rediscover the consistency and authority that once defined them, having struggled in recent times to replicate their dominant form.
