Enyimba Interim Coach Ukaegu Laments Painful Loss in Ilorin Against Katsina United

Enyimba Interim Head Coach, Lawrence Ukaegu, has expressed deep disappointment after watching his side fall 3–2 to Katsina United in a tense NPFL Matchday 14 clash on Monday in Ilorin.

Enyimba FC’s spirited late surge was not enough to overturn the deficit, as the People’s Elephant were forced to chase the game after goals from Yusuf and former Enyimba forward Uche Collins in the 32nd and 51st minutes handed Katsina United a commanding lead.

Interim gaffer Ukaegu reacted by introducing Ufere Chinedu and the experienced Stanley Dimgba, whose impact was instant—Dimgba pulled one back in the 61st minute. But just moments later, Collins struck again in the 62nd minute to restore the ‘Chanji Boys’ two-goal cushion.

Captain for the day, Kalu Nweke, reignited belief with a composed finish in the 64th minute, cutting the deficit to 3–2. Enyimba piled on the pressure thereafter, dictating the tempo, but Katsina United slowed the game with persistent time-wasting that disrupted the Aba giants’ momentum.

A visibly frustrated Ukaegu voiced his displeasure after the match:
“This is a painful one. I expected us to win today because it was a neutral ground. We did enough to get something from this match, but the lost time that wasn’t recovered cost us. Still, we will work harder and bounce back.”

Despite the setback, Enyimba’s fighting spirit was evident, and the determination shown in the closing stages provides optimism as they gear up for a high-stakes Oriental Derby against Enugu Rangers this Sunday at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
