Enyimba FC End Season With Thanksgiving Session

Enyimba Football Club on Saturday morning held a thanksgiving session to mark the end of the 2020/21 season.

Following an intense nine months of non-stop football activities, the team drew curtains on the season on Thursday with a 3-1 win against Dakkada FC in the final round of matches in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The win in Uyo was Enyimba’s seventh on the road in all competitions during the season.

Addressing the players at the thanksgiving session, Club Chairman, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu expressed the club’s appreciation to the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who he described as the ‘backbone of the team.

“I have to especially thank our dear Governor who through every situation always came through for us whenever we called upon him,” the Chairman noted.

“There has never been a time that he turned his back on us. Even when people gave up on us, he always made us believe that we could end the season on a high.

“His actions have proven again that he is our number one supporter and the backbone of this great club. We owe him everything.”

The multiple award-winning football administrator also extolled the character showcased by the players and technical staff of the team.

“One thing I can say about you (players and coaches) is that you are fighters. This has been one of our most challenging seasons, but you were able to fight until the very end to deliver this continental ticket. Everyone is proud of you and we know that next season will be greater.”

In his response, the captain of the team, Austin Oladapo praised the club and its fans for keeping hope even in the face of adversity.

“On behalf of my fellow players, I want to sincerely appreciate the management and fans of this club. We know that there were times that we couldn’t make you very happy, but you were patient with us. Our target was to win the league for you, but we are still grateful for what we were able to achieve.”

The People’s Elephant are expected to regroup in the coming weeks to commence preparation for the 2021/22 season, with the CAF Interclub Competitions scheduled to begin on September 9.
