Talehted long distance runners from the South-East and South-South geo-political zones of Nigeria have been called upon to step out in hundreds and join the ongoing registration process for this year’s Enugu City International Marathon, which will hold next week Friday.
Sports247 gathered that, with the race date now looming large, organisers of the event, Nilayo Sports Management disclosed that registration is still ongoing, even as they confirmed that all arrangements for a world-class contest are already in place.
“The city is ready. Every agency is working in sync to ensure the safety of athletes, spectators and visitors,” a statement from the organising committee revealed, while affirming that the race has full backing from Enugu State Government, with imminent benefits for tourism and business ventures in The Coal City.
The chief executive officer of Nilayo Sports, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade added that logistics, route certification, medical support, water stations, traffic management and security along the race route have all been finalised, even as she noted that confirmed registrations have exceeded expectations.
“I am really impressed with the registration turnout. International, local and elite athletes have been trooping out to register for this Marathon. I must say I am impressed.
“I still want to use this medium to call on young and talented athletes from the South-South and South-East region to go out and register as registration is still ongoing,” Mrs. Olopade reiterated.
Sports247 gathered further that the contest will be in two phases – with 42km Elite Marathon to commence at 6:30am from ShopRite on Abakaliki Road, and 10km Fun Run starting at 8:30am from Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road up to a climax at Opara Square around 12:30pm.
