Enugu City Marathon Is Gaining Massive Interest Among International Athletes, Elite Runners – Yetunde Olopade

A large number of international athletes and elite runners have already registered to compete in the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon, which is billed to take place in The Coal City on the 29th of this month.

Sports247 reports that this was revealed by the chief executive officer of Nilayo Sports Management, Mrs Yetunde Olopade, while providing latest information on preparations for the marathon.

While confirming that issues concerning welfare, security, accommodation and remuneration of all participants, from home and abroad, have been taken care of, Mrs Olopade added that she is impressed with growing interest in the registration process.

Olopade added that the registration process is still on and more entries are welcome, even as she noted that the organisers are already witnessing a massive wave of interest from local, elite and international runners.

She added that the marathon, which is organised by Nilayo Sports Management, has adequate backing from the government of Enugu State and is fast gaining attention as a major Gold Label road race designed to boost tourism, youth engagement and economic growth in the South-East of Nigeria.

Olopade disclosed, “I am really impressed with the registration turnout. Both local and international athletes and elite athletes have been trooping out to register for this marathon, and I must say I am impressed.

“I still want to use this medium to call on young and talented athletes from the South-South and South-East region to go out and register. The registration process is still ongoing.”

Sports247 gathered thst the 42km main race will start 6:30am at ShopRite on Abakaliki Road then cut across Enugu’s major landmarks, while the 10km Fun Run will start at 8:30am from Chris Tee Petrol Station on CIC Road and end at Opara Square around 12:30pm, both on the 29th of this month.
