Nigerian-born former Chelsea Ladies’ star, Eniola Aluko has won a compensation fee of £339,000 from a long-standing case that involved her accusations of cyber attacks by ex-Manchester City midfielder, Joey Barton.
Sports247 gathered that, as the case finally came to a close on Wednesday, Aluko had the final laugh, as Barton was ordered to pay £339,000 in damages and legal costs to the England ex-international, who sued him for libel.
Further delight came for Aluko, who brought legal action against Barton over two posts he made online via X in 2024, as the culprit was also ordered to pay the first £100,000 plus interest by March 24th.
The 39-year-old Aluko celebrated her victory in court with a video on social media, which depicted her walking with thumbs up outside the Royal Courts of Justice and a caption that read: “We reached the finish line.”
Aluko added, “It’s been a two-year marathon but we reached the finish line today, Thank you to my brilliant legal team Judith Thompson (Samuels Solicitors), Luke Browne (5RB).
“Lead counsel Gervase de Wilde (5RB) and thanks to my dear family and friends and everyone who has supported #Litigation #FinishLine #OnlineAbuse.”
Ironically, another report by UK’s Daily Mail revealed, “A man allegedly assaulted by former footballer Joey Barton during a fight at a golf club may lose his sight in one eye – as he is pictured for the first time.
“Married father-of-two Kevin Lynch, 51, is said to have been attacked by the ex-Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers midfielder at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club, in Liverpool, on Sunday evening.
“Barton, 43, appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon, where he was denied bail and was remanded in custody for a month.”
