Everton fans expect to be relegated from the Premier League and Newcastle (funded by the near-limitless riches of their hugely controversial Saudi Arabian owners, spent their way into the Champions League spots, losing against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final last season) supporters expect a trophy in the new season, the survey revealed.

The Toffees avoided relegation on the final day of last season under Sean Dyche, one year on from another narrow escape when Frank Lampard was at the helm, with Iwobi playing a pivotal role in both seasons.

However, going into the new campaign that will begin in August and their supporters are not convinced things will be any better in 2023-24.

YouGov and Sky Bet have partnered up for the Fan Hope Survey, and after speaking to 1,600 Premier League supporters between July 3 and July 7, the results are in.

Everton fans predicted this season would not be third time lucky and would see the Toffees drop into the second tier for the first time since 1954 and the first time ever in the Premier League era.

Newly promoted Sheffield United and Luton Town are also backed to return to the Championship, though supporters of Vincent Kompany’s Burnley think they will finish 14th.

At the other end of the table, a whopping 92 per cent of Manchester City fans expect another league title in May after last campaign’s magnificent Treble.

Arsenal loyalists are optimistic after their title challenge last season, with the second highest average finishing position predicted.

Liverpool lovers expect a return to the Champions League after a relatively disappointing fifth-placed finish in 2022-23, placing them above rivals Manchester United in the expected Premier League table according to fans.
