Emmanuel Tuesday: The Rising Nigerian Weightlifter Who’s Eyeing Olympic Glory

Emmanuel Tuesday is making waves in Nigerian weightlifting, turning heads with his discipline, focus, and tireless work ethic as he chases a ticket to the Olympics.

At the 2025 African Senior Weightlifting Championship held in Mauritius, Emmanuel delivered a standout performance in the Men’s 67kg category: he lifted 130kg in the snatch, 146kg in the clean & jerk, combining for 276kg to win two silver medals and a bronze.

In an interviews with Sports247, Emmanuel has been clear that strength alone isn’t enough — consistency, sacrifice, and sharp focus in training are what push him forward. When asked how he pushes through, he simply said: “Every early morning, every rep counts. I’m not lifting for praise — I’m lifting for Nigeria.”

He’s also been outspoken about the challenges Nigerian athletes face. He noted that facilities at home are often below international standards and appealed for better support and welfare for lifters.

With his performance in Mauritius, Emmanuel Tuesday has given Nigeria more reason to believe he could be among the next generation of Nigerian Olympians. If he continues this trajectory — staying humble, focused, and driven — all eyes will be on him as Nigeria looks to reclaim weightlifting’s global stage
