Glasgow Rangers of Scotland defender, Emmanuel Oluwasegun Opeyemi Fernandez, who clocked 25 this past Friday, has disclosed that he is eagerly hoping to add improvements to his game, in order to get a better run with club and country in the coming season.
Sports247 reports that Fernandez, who was born in England and began his career with Brentford, following which he moved to Gillingham United, from where he spent time on loan at Sheppey United and Margate, said he also is thinking of how to help Rangers do better in the next campaign.
The lanky lad, who faced an initial setback early in his career when he was released by Gillingham, and had to join Ramsgate in the regional league, said he is not thinking of leaving Rangers despite summer transfer interest from Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen of Germany.
Fernandez, who is the youngest of eight siblings and wears jersey number 37 in memory his brother, who died at 37 years old, believes he can do even better than his outstanding debut campaign, when he ended as Rangers’ Player of The Season and was in the Scottish Premiership All Star 11.
It was massive leap for the smooth-tackling defender, who joined The Gers from Peterborough United for £3.5m last summer and got his international debut on March 27th, 2026 during a 2-1 victory against Iran, then scored his first national team goal four days later in a friendly with Jordan that ended 2-2.
Despite such a huge amount of honours and several accolades coming his way, with massive summer transfer interest following, Fernandez insists he is not thinking of leaving Rangers just yet, as he wants to create an even better impact this season with the Ibrox Stadium outfit.
“I just focus on what’s going on here. If you asked me this question a year ago, it would have been the same answer. I’ve got four years left here and I want to enjoy it. I want to win. I don’t think my personality will ever change.
“My personality is me. Love and acknowledgement are great things. But I feel there are more improvements to be made. Right now, I’m not the finished product. There’s still more of the story to go,” Fernandez told Scottish Sun.
