Emir Of Ilorin Endorses Emir’s Cup As Mogaji Promises To Donate Trophy

Ahead of his 28th year coronation anniversary, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari (CFR) has thrown his weight behind the Emir of Ilorin’s Cup.

The football championship is organised by the Ilorin Emirate Football council a body which comprises of all the five local football councils under the Ilorin Emirate.

Speaking during a courtesy call on his palace on Monday, July 10, the Emir commended the organisers for the idea of the tournament and promised to support it.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the main organising committee, who also doubles as the Chairman of Ilorin West Local Football Council, Alhaji Owolabi Agbaji Wopa revealed that the tournament will unearth talents that abound in the Emirate.

“The idea of the tournament was borne out of the need to discover football talents within the Ilorin Emirate and showcase them to the world at large.

He noted that the tournament is also organised in honour of the revered monarch, commemoration of his 28 years on the throne of his forebears and to also foster unity in the Emirate.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji has promised to donate a trophy to support the tournament.

Mogaji, while receiving the committee in his office on Monday commended the organisers, adding that the tournament will further raise the bar of football development within the Emirate.

The registration for the tournament which is open to all football clubs within five local government under the Emirate will begin on July 15 and end by August 31.

While the tournament will kick off in September with a specific date to be announced by the committee, the final match will be played on November 11,2023- a day that coincides with the 28th year coronation anniversary of the Emir.
