Emerson Nwaneri Follows Older Brother’s Footsteps, Sets New Record With Arsenal

Arsenal of England youngster, Emerson Nwaneri set a new record as the London-based club’s youngest player to start in any senior league game, when he lined out for The Gunners’ U21 squad on Saturday, Sports247 reports.

Emerson Nwaneri’s new mark came less than a year after his older brother, Ethan, at just 17 years and 331 days old, became the youngest player to register an assist for Arsenal in an English Premier League match.

Ethan Nwaneri also holds The Gunners’ record as the youngest, at 17 years and 223 days to score in his first two starts for the club as well as youngest to complete five or more dribbles and provide an assist in a single EPL match.

While the older Nwaneri also made headlines in 2025 by becoming the second-youngest English player to score in the UEFA Champions League, his younger brother, Emerson is now the youngest to debut in the Premier League 2.

Emerson Nwaneri made his EPL2 debut at 15 years and 152 days, thereby surpassing his older brother’s previous record for Arsenal’s U21s; but his achievement came on a day the team faced a major setback.

Despite Emerson’s efforts, The Gunners’ under-21 squad suffered their heaviest defeat in Premier League 2 history, as they were mauled 7-0 by Liverpool, due to what Arsenal’s media described as ‘some mitigating circumstances.’

A report on Arsenal’s website noted in part, “Ife Ibrahim and Jack Porter (were) unavailable after featuring for the U18s in the FA Youth Cup, but it was still a hugely disappointing defeat.

“Arsenal gave starts to schoolboy midfielders Mishel Nduka and Emerson Nwaneri, with the latter becoming the club’s youngest ever stater in Premier League 2 aged 15 years and 152 days.

“There were further debuts in the second half with schoolboy Angleinou Pedro and first year scholar Saurap Sampang featuring but it was another deeply frustrating occasion for the Arsenal academy.”
