Eligible Nigerian Defender, Akinyemi Joins Israeli Side, Maccabi Netanya From Plodiv

Akinsola Azeez Akinyemi

Highly experienced Nigerian born defender, Akinsola Azeez Akinyemi has completed his move to top Israeli side Maccabi Netanya ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old defender joined from Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plodiv after guiding them to win the country’s FA Cup last season.

A product of the Valerenga youth side in Norway, Akinyemi can also operate at both left and right backs.

Maccabi Netanya who unveiled the experienced center-back described him as the needed missing link in their side.

Akinyemi who has played for Norway national team youth side is eligible to play for Nigeria.

He is the son of the President of Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, Sunshine Stars, Alhaji Tajudeen Akinyemi.

Maccabi Netanya F.C. is an Israeli football club based in Netanya. Established in 1934, the club was a founding member of the Israeli League in 1949. After winning their first championship in 1971, the club’s golden period lasted until the late 1980s, including three more league titles and a double in 1978.
