Ekiti Queens Football Club have officially announced the appointment of Coach Sabo Abu Okala as the club’s new head coach ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season.
Sports247 reports that the appointment, confirmed by the Office of Sports Development, marks the beginning of a new era for the Baoress Babes as they seek to build on their top-flight survival and establish themselves as a stronger force in Nigerian women’s football.
Coach Okala arrives at Ekiti Queens with a wealth of experience, having enjoyed a distinguished playing and coaching career spanning several decades.
During his playing days, the former goalkeeper featured for notable clubs including Sheraton FC, Water Resources FC, FCDA FC, BCC Lions, Niger Tornadoes, Al Wakrah Sports Club of Qatar, and Gabros FC, earning a reputation as one of Nigeria’s respected football personalities.
Following his retirement from active football, Okala successfully transitioned into coaching and has since managed several clubs and academies, including Tiyu Academy, Fosac Academy, Kogi United Feeders, Confluence Queens, Honey Badgers, and Naija Ratels FC.
His coaching journey has been highlighted by several impressive achievements, including qualification for the NWFL Super Six, promotion to the Nigeria National League, and a runner-up finish in the Nigerian Women’s League.
The experienced tactician is also highly qualified, holding certifications from the National Institute for Sports (NIS) and UEFA Open Fun Football coaching programmes, further underlining his credentials and commitment to football development.
Ekiti Queens’ management believes Okala’s vast experience in player development, team building, and tactical management will be instrumental in strengthening the squad and guiding the club toward sustained success.
The appointment comes at a crucial time for the Baoress Babes, who narrowly retained their NWFL status last season and are now eager to make significant progress in the upcoming campaign.
