Hong Kong Bulls BC’s Nigerian power forward, Ejimofor Anosike (aka E.J.) is basking in the euphoria of splendid accolades flowing his way from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sports247 gathered that Anosike, who featured for Nigeria at the 2024 Olympic Games qualification tournament, gained President Tinubu’s plaudits for his top form this season in China’s National Basketball League (NBL).
The presidential applause, which was relayed in a press statement by Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also recognised Anosike’s high sense of patriotism and love for Nigeria’s jersey with D’Tigers.
The accolades came after Anosike led his club to the NBL title, while also winning the finals’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, Best International Player award and Slam Dunk Champion title.
Tinubu noted that the player’s achievements reflect his exceptional talent, discipline and resilience, while also acknowledging that his success brings pride and honour to Nigeria.
The president further stated that Anosike, who had previously played top-flight basketball in Spain, South Korea, Belgium and Angola, also serves as an inspiration to young players across Nigeria, Africa and the world.
He added: “Anosike’s accomplishments reflect the growing global impact of Nigerians in sports and underscore the importance of continued investment in youth development and sporting excellence.
“I commend him for not allowing his successes overshadow his sense of patriotism, as evidenced by the passion he exhibits as a member of Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers.”
Sports247 gathered further that the 27-year-old Anosike also has a masters degree in Agricultural Economics from University of Tennessee and an MBA from Cal State Fullerton, both in the USA.
