Nigeria’s middle-distance maestro, Edose Ibadin, is sharpening his spikes and building momentum ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Japan.
The national record holder in the 600m, 800m, and 1000m events has declared he’s fully focused on both defending his titles at the August national trials and flying the Nigerian flag high in September on the global stage.

Ibadin, who etched his name in history as Nigeria’s first 800m Olympian in over 30 years, is no stranger to the grind.
Despite a modest showing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, his perspective remains grounded and optimistic.
“Didn’t quite get the result I wanted at the Olympics, but what I can say is that I am extremely grateful to have been there,” he said. “Going from watching it in the past to actually being there is a win in itself.”
His resume is impressive. Ibadin set a blistering 800m national record of 1:44.65 in Washington, D.C., in 2023, and shattered the 600m record in 2024 at the Big Apple Invitational in New York with a time of 1:15.89.
He also holds the record in the 1000m, making him Nigeria’s undisputed middle-distance champion.
Now, his eyes are firmly set on maintaining those records and building towards a breakthrough performance in Japan.
“Preparations are slow for now, but I expect to be fully ready for the championships proper,” he told reporters.
Ibadin’s commitment to the sport goes beyond his personal ambitions. In early 2023, he returned to DuVal High School, his alma mater, to donate running spikes and support the next generation of runners—a gesture that underscores his leadership both on and off the track.
As the clock ticks toward August and September, Ibadin’s blend of experience, national pride, and raw talent makes him one of Nigeria’s brightest medal hopes.
For the man who turned Olympic dreams into reality, Japan 2025 might just be the stage where he crowns his legacy.
