The Chairman of the Edo State Golf Association, Mr. Andy Momodu, on Tuesday led a delegation of coaches, athletes, and stakeholders on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, at his office in Benin City.
Momodu said the visit was aimed at presenting trophies won by Edo athletes in various national golf tournaments, in appreciation of the Commission’s unwavering support for the sport’s growth across the state.

He commended Hon. Enabulele for his visionary leadership and commitment to repositioning Edo as a leading sports hub.

“We boast some of the best golf players in the country. These trophies represent the achievements of our athletes and show that Edo continues to excel in golf,” Momodu said.
Highlighting recent achievements, Momodu praised Ehis Igbinadolor, who finished as first runner-up and Nigeria’s best performer at the All Africa Challenge/Central Africa Championship, while also winning the Benin Club Ladies Open four times consecutively.
Ibrahim Musa captured the men’s category title at the 2025 Python Golf Club Open in Port Harcourt and placed first runner-up in another division, while Osaze Iyare won the men’s overall titles at both the Asaba Governor’s Golf Cup and the Benin Club Open.
In the women’s category, Destiny Okoh finished fourth at the LGAN South-South Golf Open, and Loveth Okoho impressed at both the Benin Ladies Open and Port Harcourt Open.
Momodu also announced his recent elevation as South-South representative on the Nigeria Golf Federation, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation in golf development.
Responding, Hon. Enabulele congratulated the association for its achievements and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting sports excellence across the state.
“I sincerely appreciate your efforts. As a Commission, we only ask for your continued commitment and collaboration,” he said.
“I also congratulate all the athletes who have made Edo proud. Our vision remains focused on grassroots sports development, and it is gratifying to see our initiatives producing results nationally and internationally.”
He assured the association of sustained partnership and support in hosting major golf tournaments across Edo State, in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision for sports advancement.
