EDO 2020: Team Bayelsa Clinch 4 Gold Medals On Day Two Of Competition At 20th National Sports Festival

The medal rain for Team Bayelsa continued on Day Two of action at the 20th National Sports Festival Tagged Edo 2020 with a total of nine medals comprising 4 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze Medals.

A breakdown of the medal indicates that out of the four gold medals, swimming had two, while cycling and Kungfu had one each.

Swimming produced all three silver medals and a bronze while Danshu Kungfu also had a bronze.

This brings the total medal haul so far to 9 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze Medals.

Swimming once more proved to be the gold cow on the second day of action, producing 2 of the gold medals courtesy of golden girl, Ifiemi Gagbe who won the women’s 1,500 meters freestyle and women’s individual 400 meters medley events much to the excitement of the cheering Bayelsa supporters at poolside.

Ifiemie also added a bronze medal in the 200 meters backstroke as Yellow Yeighya had two silver medals in the men’s 200meters and 50meters butterfly stroke just as Team Bayelsa added a silver medal in the men’s 200meters freestyle relay.

Earlier in the day, it was Kalizibe Caleb that opened the floodgates with a gold medal performance in the 1,000-kilometer sprint cycling race.

Kungfu also produced a gold medal following a fascinating display in Taolu demonstration by Favour Godspower as Ebitonmo Oyeindenyefa settled for the bronze medal in Danshu Kungfu.

Meanwhile, all 3 Bayelsa Boxers progressed into the next round of boxing in the 69kg, 75kg, and 81kg after defeating their opponents.

More Team Bayelsa athletes will be in action on Day Three with prospects for more medals.

Today (Tuesday) is the official opening ceremony of the Edo 2020 Festival with Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo expected to lead a cast of high profile Government officials at the Federal and State level to formally declare the Fiesta Open.
