EDO 2020: Gafaar Charges Athletes To Compete Clean As Team Lagos Arrives Benin In High Spirit

Lagos State Contingent arrived in Benin City to join their counterparts across the country to participate in the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) taking place in Edo State.

The National Sports Festival (NSF) holding from 4th to 16th April 2021 after it suffered several postponements due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Team Lagos are competing in 30 Sports at the Sports Festival. The contingent which comprises 297 Athletes and 185 Officials – Coaches, Secretaries, and other accompanying Officials, left Lagos Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, all the athletes and officials were vaccinated by health officials at their camp in Bariga, Lagos before the team left for Benin City on Saturday. Under the supervision of both the Executive Chairman, Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, and the Director-General, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar the vaccination of the contingent was orderly conducted making Team Lagos free from any noncompliance to the festival health protocols.

The Athletes and officials who were in high spirits were charged to be good ambassadors of Lagos State while in Edo State for Nigeria’s version of the Olympic Games.

“We want you to compete clean and be good representatives of our dear state,” said Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission.” Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the preparation for the festival easy for us by providing an enabling environment and I want to charge you to go out there and do your best to the glory of Lagos State,” he said.
