EDO 2020: Athletes Performance At The 20th NSF Commendable – MOC Chairman, Nebeolisa Anako

Chairman Main Organizing Committee (MOC), of the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) ongoing in Benin, Edo State has lauded the performance of athletes and officials at the Festival. The MOC Chairman and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Nebeolisa Anako made the remarks in an interview with Sportswriters on Wednesday.

Anako stated that it was a delight that the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival which hitherto suffered various setbacks commenced and issues sorted out for Nigeria’s version of the mini-Olympics to take shape. The sports administrator opined that a total of 39 games featured in the 20th edition of the festival with some events already concluded. He pointed out that the athletes have given a good account of themselves as records are being broken, new ones emerging and moreso young talents being discovered in various events.

Anako stated that before the commencement of the Festival the MOC and LOC had liaised with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in ensuring that the COVID-19 protocols were strictly adhered to by all participating state. He posited that Rapid Test were conducted for athletes while ensuring that participating teams showed evidence that their entire team to the festival were vaccinated.

The MOC Chairman revealed that out of Eight thousand athletes at the games, five tested positive for COVID-19 and were immediately isolated and currently receiving adequate medical attention at an isolation center. Anako confirmed that Team Nigeria will be at the Tokyo Olympics later in the year with 10 federations expected to feature at the global showpiece. He urged the athletes to put in their best at the festival and shun all acts capable of having a damaging effect on their career and development.
