Paris Saint-Germain Féminines were held to a 1-1 draw by Benfica Women in their UEFA Women’s Champions League clash at the Estádio da Luz, Lisbon.
PSG made a bright start and took an early lead in the 5th minute, when Jennifer Echegini fired home a composed left-footed finish from the centre of the box, placing the ball into the bottom-left corner after a well-worked assist from Frøya Dorsin.
Benfica responded with growing confidence and were rewarded in the 32nd minute after winning a penalty. Carole Costa stepped up and calmly converted with a right-footed strike into the bottom-left corner, bringing the hosts level and reigniting the contest.
The remainder of the match saw both sides push for a winner, but solid defensive organisation and disciplined midfield play ensured neither team could find a decisive breakthrough.
Benfica, marshalled by Nigerian international Christy Ucheibe, showed resilience against PSG’s attacking quality, while the visitors remained dangerous on the counter.
The draw leaves both teams with valuable points as the group stage continues, with PSG encouraged by Echegini’s early strike and Benfica buoyed by a strong home performance against one of Europe’s top sides.
