The much-expected international friendly between Nigeria’s women’s basketball national team, D’Tigress and Indiana Fever BC of USA has been described as a ‘statement of intent’ that confirms the squad’s huge aspirations for the year.
Sports247 reports that this verdict was provided by the chairman of Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) sponsorship and marketing committee, Ugo Udezue, who reckoned that Indiana Fever will be a tough nut to crack.

Udezue also reasoned that lining D’Tigress out against a top outfit reflects how serious the NBBF is about preparing the Nigerian team for their outing at this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup, which comes up September in Germany.
He added that Indiana Fever’s pedigree and current form in USA’s Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) show the status of a team that will give D’Tigress a tough challenge and huge learning curve heading into the Mundial.
The sponsorship expert noted that the forthcoming international exhibition game, which is scheduled for May 2nd, will further reinforce Nigeria’s growing presence on the global basketball stage and solidify D’Tigress’ lofty reputation.
Udezue further said the game also reflects the NBBF’s strategic commitment to enhancing international exposure for D’Tigress, strengthening chemistry in the team and showcasing Nigeria’s basketball talent on a global stage.
“This is more than just a game. It is a statement of intent. D’Tigress have built a legacy of excellence over the past seven years. Matchups against top WNBA teams continue to position Nigeria as a true global force in women’s basketball.
“We are creating opportunities for our players to compete at the highest level, while showcasing the strength of Nigerian basketball to the world,” said Udezue, who also pointed out that D’Tigress will equally play Los Angeles Spark on April 25th.
A statement from the NBBF’s media department added in part, “Seven-time African champions, D’Tigress continue to set the standard for excellence, consistency and global competitiveness.
“The matchup will provide a valuable platform for both established stars and emerging talents within the Nigerian program to compete against elite WNBA-level opposition.
“This fixture further highlights the growing momentum behind Nigerian basketball, supported by strategic partnerships and a renewed focus on global engagement, high-performance development, and long-term sustainability.”
