Nigeria’s D’Tigress kicked off their FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 campaign in commanding fashion with a resounding 92–45 win over Rwanda in their Group D opener at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
The defending champions overwhelmed their East African opponents from start to finish, with a balanced team performance that saw Nigeria dominate all four quarters — 17-8, 28-17, 26-12, and 21-8.

Victoria Macaulay led the scoring with 20 points, while Destiney Promise Philoxy added 11 points in an impressive all-around showing. Nigeria outshot Rwanda in every key statistical category, including field goal percentage (50% to 28%), three-point accuracy (31.8% to 12.5%), and free throws (83.3% to 63.2%).
The game’s largest lead stood at 47 points, with Nigeria putting together a 15-0 scoring run and maintaining the lead for more than 38 minutes. Rwanda, which managed only brief moments of resistance, failed to mount any serious challenge after the first quarter.
This result places Nigeria at the top of Group D standings and reaffirms their status as a title contender aiming for a fourth consecutive AfroBasket crown.
The match was officiated by Mihkel Männiste (Estonia), Fanta Touré (Mali), and Imene Tahmi (Algeria), with Joy Abooki Olinga serving as the technical delegate.
Nigeria will face their next group opponent in the coming days as the tournament continues through August 3.
