D’Tigress Coach Rena Wakama Eyes Historic Fifth Straight AfroBasket Crown

Head coach Rena Wakama has made it clear that Nigeria’s D’Tigress are focused on defending their FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title and securing a record-breaking fifth consecutive victory.

The tournament begins July 25 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

In Abuja’s open training session, 17 players participated as the squad intensified preparation . Wakama acknowledged that while team chemistry is still developing due to limited camp time, forging strong connections is crucial.

“The key focus is connecting. We have a few days to reconnect. Our core is coming back … we have to connect, come together, and be focused,” she said . Wakama underscored that being the team to beat, opponents will bring their best, and the squad must remain mentally and physically sharp.
