Nigeria’s D’Tigers wrapped up their 2025 FIBA AfroBasket campaign in fifth place after posting a respectable 3-1 record, showing glimpses of promise despite falling short of the medal rounds.
D’Tigers displayed grit and resilience, underlining the rebuilding process as Nigeria seeks to reclaim its spot among the continent’s basketball powerhouses.

D’Tigers opened their campaign strongly with a 76-59 win over Madagascar before recording back-to-back victories against Tunisia (87-66) and Cameroon (99-90).
Their only defeat came in the quarterfinals against Cameroon, where they lost 75-91in a tightly contested battle.
The result eliminated Nigeria from the championship to secure a 5th-place finish.
At the top of the standings, Angola cemented their dominance in African basketball, defeating Mali 70-43 in the final to secure a record-extending 12th continental title on Sunday in Luanda.
The Angolans thrilled a sold-out 12,700-capacity Kilamba Arena with a flawless 6-0 run, lifting their first AfroBasket trophy since 2013 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Mali, meanwhile, celebrated their best-ever finish by taking silver with a 4-3 record.
Earlier, Senegal beat Cameroon 98-72 to clinch third place, securing a third consecutive bronze medal.
