DR Congo’s Coach Plans To Use Lessons From Super Eagles’ Clash To Floor Jamaica, New Caledonia

The coach of DR Congo’s national team, Sebastien Desabre has disclosed that he will use lessons he learnt from his side’s hectic victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles last year to help his team at the upcoming World Cup intercontinental play-offs.

Sports247 reports that The Leopards defeated the Super Eagles via penalties after settling for a 1-1 draw after extra time during the African play-off final in Morocco, and he now wants to use that experience versus Jamaica or New Caledonia.

The Central Africans, who are chasing a return to the Mundial after an absence of 52 years, will book a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup if they defeat the winner between Jamaica and New Caledonia in Guadalajara, Mexico on March 31st.

Heading into his team’s single game at the intercontinental play-off, due to their higher FIFA ranking, Desabre, who was not born when DRC made their only previous appearance back in 1974 (as Zaire), outlined his method of approach.

Dessabre declared, “We’re not afraid of anyone. We’re going to give it our all. As a minimum, we need to replicate the kind of performance we delivered against Nigeria. We know all about Jamaica and New Caledonia.

“We’ve been scouting them. We’ll also have the chance to watch them play over in Mexico on 26 March, but, for now, we’re focusing on our own players. We all want to go to the World Cup.

“We can’t let our emotions or the magnitude of the occasion get the better of us. What matters is playing well, keeping our feet on the ground and giving everything we’ve got. We need to perform well on the day and make Congo proud.”

Meanwhile, Sports247 reports that nothing has been said by FIFA about Nigeria’s petition lodged against DR Congo for allegedly fielding ineligible players with ‘fraudulent nationality clearances’ for the African leg of the World Cup play-offs.
