The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for what he described as a “bold, strategic, and visionary appointment” of His Excellency Comr. Philip Shuaibu as the new Director-General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS).
Speaking at the NSC Headquarters in Abuja while officially receiving Comr. Shuaibu on his resumption visit, Dikko did not mince words in praising the President for prioritizing sports development as a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He described Shuaibu’s appointment as “a turning point in the journey to reset, reform, and relaunch Nigerian sports.”
“I must thank most sincerely President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for once again taking the road less traveled with this appointment. This is one of the decisions that will truly support the ongoing reforms in the sports sector,” Dikko said.
He emphasized the crucial role the NIS will play in providing technical depth, research capabilities, and manpower to drive the Commission’s ambitious sporting agenda.
“The NIS is key to our vision in the Commission. We are doing things differently—because only mad men do the same thing and expect different results,” he stated, drawing applause from staff and stakeholders present.
Dikko described Comr. Shuaibu as a “trusted hand” who has proven himself across various national assignments, now being strategically positioned to overhaul and reposition the NIS in line with 21st-century sporting standards.
“Mr. President has chosen three good friends to hold three critical positions to turn around sports in Nigeria. Comr. Shuaibu’s pedigree speaks for itself, and I am confident he will deliver beyond expectations,” he added.
In a show of camaraderie and shared purpose, Dikko revealed that both he and Comr. Shuaibu had already aligned visions and mapped out strategic priorities to fulfill the President’s mandate.
“You have always delivered. Now, you’re not just a member of the sports family—you’re a cornerstone. We’ll work together to bring the President’s vision to life,” Dikko affirmed.
In his response, Comr. Shuaibu expressed deep gratitude and unwavering commitment to the task ahead.
“I came to inform the Chairman of my resumption, and our discussions have made it crystal clear—sports in Nigeria is headed in the right direction. We will ensure that the Renewed Hope vision of the President becomes a visible reality in the sports sector,” Shuaibu said with determination.
The meeting marked a new chapter for the NSC, as Nigeria braces for a renaissance in sports governance, development, and global competitiveness under a leadership determined to deliver results.
