Dessers Tipped To Start Against Rwanda, Promises 100% Effort For Super Eagles

New summer signing at Panathinaikos of Greece, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers has been tipped to start Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, and the former Glasgow Rangers of Scotland striker quickly promised to give 100% effort if given the task by Super Eagles’ technical adviser, Eric Sekou Chelle.

Sports247 gathered that Chelle is currently considering an idea of dropping Ademola Lookman, whose fitness is in doubt, due to his longdrawn transfer debacle that has prevented him from training at Atalanta of Italy and he is yet to play in a competitive match since July.

The likelihood of Chelle opting to rest Lookman has already given rise to speculation that the Franco-Malian tactician will look in the direction of Dessers, who was in remarkable form with Rangsees last season and scored for Nigeria in their victory over Ghana at the 2025 Unity Cup on London.

However, rather than talk about starting against Rwanda on Saturday, Dessers took a general look at his national team career and revealed the two big dreams he has for himself in the Super Eagles.

The mulatto striker, who shot to limelight during his days with Heracles Almelo of Netherlands, with which he emerged as the Dutch Eredivisie League’s top scorer in 2021, said his eyes are on the World Cup ticket as well as Africa Cup of Nations.

Dessers disclosed, “It would be a dream for me to go to the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup for Nigeria. That would be an absolute dream come true.”

He then admitted that having his dream come true would depend on how well he and his teammates play during all their matches for the Super Eagles, hence his pledge to always give his very best when donning the green-and-white jersey.

“That would always be the result if we work well, keep being professional, and we play each match well. What I will personally promise is that I will give 100%. I will be a top professional and always focus on the main goal,” Dessers assured.
