Dennerby: I Want To Discover New Nigerian Stars

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has declared that one of his big ambitions with the squad at this month’s African Women Nations Cup is to discover new stars for the country.

Though Dennerby admitted he will have to rely heavily on the Falcons’ established stars in his search for success at AWCON 2018 in Ghana, sports247.ng can report that he is keen on spotting some fresh talents for Nigeria in the women’s game.

The Swedish soccer tactician stated further that he will be aiming for the continental tile and a ticket to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup at Ghana 2018, where Nigeria are drawn against South Africa, Kenya and Zambia in Group B.

Though Dennerby cited Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie as the big Falcons’ stars to watch out for, he is optimistic that some younger stars will emerge in green-and-white.

Dennerby said: “We have talents in our team both in defence and the forwards. There is Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie and they both combined to score six goals against Gambia.

“They have to be in good form if they want to be successful in Ghana and we also have some young players knocking on the door and I hope this tournament will bring out some other stars.

“Our ambition is to win the tournament but most importantly to secure our ticket to the 2019 World Cup in France.

“We know it won’t be easy, because there is big improvement from many teams, so it is important to have good preparation if you want to win games.”
