Dennerby Charts Course For Falcons’ AWCON Revival

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has outlined a course of action, through which the squad will bounce back from their opening group defeat against South Africa at the African Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Although many critics believe the Falcons cannot scale into the second round, following Zambia’s annihilation of Equatorial Guinea, Dennerby insists his side will storm back into glory.

Sports247.ng reports further that the Swedish soccer tactician believes the Falcons will play like true champions in their next game in order to overcome Zambia on Wednesday.

Dennerby stated further that his side will beat two-time champions and erstwhile Group B favourites, Equatorial Guinea to reach the semi finals of the ongoing 11th AWCON in Ghana.

After the eight time champions suffered a shock 1-0 loss to South Africa in Cape Coast on Sunday, they must win their two remaining encounters to be sure of a place in the tournament last four.

In the other Group B game, Zambia won 5-1 against Equatorial Guinea, who were restored few days to the tournament after the CAF Appeal Board overturned an earlier ruling of the Disciplinary Committee.

Only the top three from this competition will qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, but Dennerby refuses to press the panic button, as he says his players will get back on course.

The Falcons have never failed to qualify for the World Cup, since FIFA launched the global finals in 1991, and Dennerby says they will keep to tradition by pulling through eventually in Ghana.

Dennerby stressed: “We have ruminated over the defeat and everyone is focused on what we have to do to get to the next stage.

“It will not be easy but the players have expressed determination to win every match from this stage so that we can progress and pick a ticket to the FIFA World Cup, as a first objective.

“We are the champions and we have to show that spirit from the next match against the Zambians.”
