Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has advised the invited home-based players in Nigeria’s squad to take full advantage of the opportunity and prove they deserve a spot among the country’s best.
Speaking ahead of the friendly against Russia, Aiyenugba encouraged the local league players to give their best and represent the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with pride.

“The only thing I would advise them is to represent the home-based players very well. Because if they do that, that would be a good chance for them to be invited for many matches that are coming.”
He noted that with the current Super Eagles coach overseeing both the main team and the CHAN Eagles, there is now a clearer pathway for players in the domestic league to break into the senior national team.
“Before now, the main Super Eagles could not interfere with the CHAN Eagles. But now, if he is able to improve the players and pick some for the Super Eagles, it shows he’s doing a great job by inviting home-based players to the main team.”
Aiyenugba, who has also played in the NPFL and understands the challenges of transitioning to international football, urged the players to make a strong impression, as this opportunity could open more doors in the future.
