Sports247 gathered that battling midfielder Abiodun (aka Kante) and energetic striker, Monday were both heading to Nigeria’s national team, Super Falcons’ camp in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of their participation at this year’s Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026).
However, the players faced a huge obstruction to their plans, as they learnt about the cancellation on arrival at the airport in Washington DC, USA, which delayed their departure and the NFF had to quickly provide an alternative.
This means Abiodun and Monday will be the last set of players to arrive at the Falcons’ Hotel Marriott base in Casablanca, where the number of invitees in camp rose to 23 on Tuesday afternoon, with Liaoning Baiye of China attacker, Folashade Ijamilusi the latest to turn up.
The former junior international, who scored twice at the last WAFCON, including the Falcons’ equalizer during a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final, stormed the Nigerian camp some minutes before 3pm on Tuesday.
Ijamilusi promptly settled down to join the 10-time champions in the day’s evening training session at La Noria Club, where they put finishing touchess to their build-up routine in Casablanca, ahead of their trip to Rabat, where they willl feature in Group C along with Malawi, Egypt and Zambia.
Sports247 gathered further that Nigeria’s formal team arrival meeting with officials of Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the organising committee is scheduled for Saturday, while the Falcons’ first match is versus Malawi next week Tuesday.
