Deaths, bad roads, other sad incidents, not good for image of Nigerian football – Egbayelo

The recent spate of deaths and other sad incidents in Nigerian football has been described as painful, shameful, and unfortunate.

Reacting yesterday from his base in Japan to the untimely death of former Super Eagles striker Barnabas Imenger and team manager of Lobi stars, the President of Lagos-based nationwide league side Iganmu football club, Abayomi Egbayelo, while decrying the sad news, described it as one death too many.

” The death of Barnabas Imenger is one death too many. It is unfortunate that Nigerian football has been hit by these spates of deaths, road accidents, and other mishaps,” Egbayelo lamented.

He admonished state governments to improve infrastructure, particularly, the bad roads which have been the cause of many bad accidents and deaths.

” The road accidents happening to Nigerian clubs lately, is true, a cause for worry. The state governments that fund these clubs should look into it as soon as possible.

” We as stakeholders need to do more regarding the welfare and safety of players.
And if the state governments need help, they can always reach out to some experts, football investors, or private companies,” Egbayelo opined.
