CEO of Excellent Football Academy Ughelli, Delta State Nigeria Coach Johnbull Onome has expressed delight in his German born star David Stockbrink following his sterling performance in the 4-0 smashing of New Life FC in the Delta State Federation cup Round one fixtures.
Coach Onome made this assertion on Wednesday after personally supervision Excellent FC morning training ahead of their Quarter finals Clash with Delta marines in the Delta State Federation Cup. “David is no doubt a rising Star, his presence in the team has motivated the other players to step up their performance” Coach Onome stated.
David Stockbrink who flew into the country on Saturday along with his parents from his Germany base where he is studying at high School could barely rest before taking to the field to train on Monday with his team mates and was quite outstanding in the opening stages of the match against new life on Tuesday.
David played the first 45 minutes and was substituted after the interval with Excellent FC already 2-0 first half lead. Coach Onome stated that his substitution was for tactical reason “I had to sub him in the second half to allow him to rest, he did great in the first half he played and we have to keep him safe considering the task ahead “he added
Meanwhile David Stockbrink in a post match interview said that he was no waivered by the weather nor the competitiveness of Nigerian football as he is used to playing whenever he visits home. “I am already used to the weather condition and the style of play here, I often come home, i was here last Easter and so i knew what to expect, although the tactics is different from what i am used to in Germany but i am able to adapt “he said.
On why he only played 45 minutes David responded that “I had an ankle injury in January and so i just recovered so I guess the coach didn’t want me to put to much pressure on it so i am fine with the amount of time under my belt” “we are playing the Quarter finals on the 14th so i hope by then I would be better and we see how it goes” David said.
