Dapo Abiodun Cup 2020: Lobi Stars Draw MFM FC In First Game

The second edition of Dapo Abiodun Cup (preseason tournament) officially kicks off today 17th November 2020 at The Dipo Dina International Stadium Ijebu Ode Ogun State.

Ijebu Ode has been a preparatory ground for Lobi Stars over the years and have always offered the pride of Benue homely hospitality.

Lobi Stars were part of the first edition and did not regret participation. Though we lost at the semi-finals with a humiliating margin to 3SC the result was the turning point that fixed the weak areas that were exposed in the tournament. It was as a result that Lobi Stars began the league on a high tempo and played from matchday 2 to 9 without conceding a goal.

Lobi Stars will this time around commenced proceedings of the second edition on matchday 2, Wednesday, November 18 by 7 AM against MFM

On record, Lobi Stars have never lost their opening game in any preseason tournament, a record that could send jitters to the opponents. Looking at the pedigree of the teams, one will certainly expect quality opposition from MFM, though Lobi Stars emerged victorious against the Olukoya boys in their last two meets, one in the first edition of the same tournament here in Ijebu Ode and The NPFL game 2019/2020 in Makurdi.

Lobi Stars and MFM are coming to Ijebu Ode from Port Harcourt where they both put up spectacular performances by emerging group leaders but unfortunately knocked out by Bayelsa United and Rivers United respectively in the semi-finals. Going by head to head the Ortom boys have an intimidating advantage over MFM.

Speaking to Lobi Stars media, The Technical Adviser of the club, Coach Kabiru Dogo was full of confidence in his players, even though he still considers them as work in progress. He spoke with an assumed assurance.

The former Nasarawa United and Sunshine Gaffer showed more concern about using the tournament as the final phase of build-up for the season that kicks off on December 6, 2020, but still mindful of the result with the expectation if lifting the cup.

The opening game between Kwara United and Remo Stars ended 1-1 this evening at the main bowl of The Dipo Dino International Stadium.
