Cyril Dessers Returns for Rangers Ahead of UEFA Champions League Play-Off Decider Against Club Brugge

Rangers have been handed a major boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League playoff second-leg clash against Club Brugge, with manager Russell Martin confirming that Nigerian striker Cyril Dessers is fit and available for selection.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Martin delivered an update that will please both Rangers and Super Eagles fans: “Yes, he is here, and he’s good to go.”

Dessers has missed the club’s last three fixtures, including the 3-1 first-leg defeat in Glasgow, which left Rangers’ Champions League qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

His return comes at a crucial time as the Scottish giants seek to overturn the deficit against the Belgian champions, who feature his international teammate Raphael Onyedika.

Since joining Rangers, the 30-year-old forward has played a pivotal role in Martin’s attacking setup, thanks to his physical presence, hold-up play, and ability to deliver in high-pressure moments.

His availability not only provides tactical flexibility but also serves as a morale boost for a side that has struggled in front of goal in recent weeks.

While it remains unclear whether Dessers will start or be eased back into action from the bench, his presence in the squad is viewed as a significant advantage.

On the international front, Dessers’ return to full fitness is equally important.

Although born in Belgium, he has made eight appearances for Nigeria in international friendlies and was recently included in the Super Eagles’ provisional 31-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

With Dessers back in contention, Rangers will look to his experience and firepower as they aim to keep their Champions League dream alive.

In the same vein, Nigeria manager Eric Chelle will also be encouraged ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.
