Cumbria Defeat Nigeria Rugby Team in Barrow

Cumbria powered to a dominant 70–6 victory over Nigeria in a representative rugby league clash on Sunday afternoon at the Northern Competitions Stadium in Barrow.

The match marked a special occasion for both sides — Cumbria’s first outing in Barrow since 2007 and Nigeria’s first-ever international fixture outside Africa.

A lively crowd of around 1,500 spectators witnessed the encounter, which saw the home side deliver an impressive attacking performance.

Departing Wigan Warriors prop Harvie Hill, who is set to join Hull FC on a four-year deal, featured prominently for Cumbria. He lined up alongside fellow Super League players Brad Singleton (Castleford Tigers) and Ellis Gillam (Toulouse Olympique) in a formidable forward pack.

Nigeria’s squad also boasted Super League experience, with Dan Okoro of Warrington Wolves and Muizz Mustapha, recently signed by Doncaster from Castleford Tigers, turning out for the Green Eagles.

Cumbria crossed the line 13 times in total, with Jack Broadbent, Ellis Archer (2), Ellison Holgate, Shane Toal (2), Curtis Teare (2), Luke Cresswell (3), Jake Carter, and Connor Holliday all getting on the scoresheet.

Nigeria’s consolation came late in the game through Muizz Mustapha, who powered over for their only try.

The match provided valuable experience for the Nigerian team as they continue to build their international rugby league credentials, while Cumbria celebrated a successful return to Barrow with a commanding display.
