According to reports, Cremonese has rejected Glasgow Rangers’ initial offer for Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers. Rangers had submitted a significant bid to Cremonese for the striker’s services, but it was declined.
The Italian team is reportedly seeking to recoup the £6 million they paid KRC Genk for Dessers last summer. Rangers have identified Dessers as a suitable replacement for the departed Alfredo Morelos, and the club’s manager Michael Beale is also impressed by him. Dessers is one of Beale’s top targets as he looks to acquire a striker.
In his first season at Cremonese, the 26-year-old started 20 games out of a possible 43 in all competitions and came off the bench nine times. He finished the season with seven goals and two assists for the just-relegated side.
Dessers made a name for himself in the Eredivisie, winning the Golden Boot in the curtailed 2019/2020 season by scoring 15 goals for Heracles Almelo. He also won the Europa Conference League award while on loan with Feyenoord in the 2021/2022 season.
